Initially when considering this article for the August ratings update, I sought to keep it simple and straightforward, like the June Update from 2 months ago. But one of the reasons there wasn’t an article on the July update was the notable changes were rather bland. So and so is up 2 rating points, while another is down 1 point. Boring!
Then I noticed a few interesting things about the August update. I mean, how do we overlook the highest rated active player going up 5 more rating points? Manabu Kajiyama is now 1056 rated, which is huge news. Sort of. For fantasy season leagues, if you were lucky enough to get him weeks ago, like I did, you feel proud of having highest rated player on your roster. For redraft league, it’s not at all a tough decision to chose between Manabu or Calvin Heimburg who is 5 points cheaper and playing lights out.
Actually, what clicked for me is this is the ratings update for Worlds. And since fantasy values on player ratings during Worlds is a really big deal in redraft league, I got lost in a rabbit hole, or three in doing some analysis on that. So we’ll call that part 2 of this two part series on the August Ratings update. Here is part 1, the straightforward, simplified update.
